Mosaïques Festival, London 28.11.14
The 14th edition of the Mosaïques Festival on (28th November at Rich Mix in Shoreditch) features cutting-edge contemporary music produced in France.
There’s beautiful Malian roots to start with Debademba , followed by Temenik Electric’s vibrant Arabic rock and a DJ set from the mighty Acid Arab, fusing trance-like folk music with acid house and techno.
The festival will also host a screening of Benda Bilili!, which tells the powerful story of a remarkable group of disabled street musicians in Kinshasa, on Sat 29th, and on the 28th at 2pm there will be a panel discussion on the free movement of musicians, with a particular emphasis on the difficulties faced when trying to perform in the UK. The panel will be chaired by Lopa Kothari, presenter of BBC Radio 3’s ‘World On 3’ programme, and guests include promoter and agent Florence Arpin (Sahara Soul, Tamikrest, U-Roy), Robert Sharp(Head of Campaigns at English PEN, who defend the rights of writers and artists around the world) and manager Rikki Stein (Fela, Rachid Taha ) and a representative from the Zone Franche network, which promotes relations between 200 music organisations worldwide.
